18-year old charged with statutory rape
On June 18, charges were filed against 18-year-old Eric J. Lane of Nevada for statutory rape and sodomy charges stemming from his alleged sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl.
Lane is charged with two counts of first-degree statutory rape and single counts of first-degree statutory sodomy and possession of child pornography.
A probable-cause affidavit states the defendant’s relationship with the girl came to the attention of the school resource officer at Nevada R-5 back in April when Lane was detained for getting on and riding a school bus to Nevada while not enrolled as a student. He was charged with trespassing.
The affidavit describes how, during a subsequent investigation, a woman told an officer Lane had been caught in bed with her daughter. The defendant purportedly admitted how he had repeated sexual relations with the girl on April 23-24 and a consent search of his Facebook page allegedly turned up several nude photos of the girl.
On July 11, Lane was arraigned before Presiding Circuit Judge David Munton and pleaded not guilty.
Munton released Lane on his own recognizance with written instructions which include forbidding him from having any form of direct or indirect contact with the girl in question, forbidding him to enter the town she resides in and a curfew of 9 p.m. every night.
A case management conference is set for 1 p.m. on Aug. 15.
