NEVC wins season opening three-set thriller

The Northeast Vernon County Lady Knights are off to a fantastic start, having defeated the Lakeland Lady Viking in a three-set thriller in Lakeland Tuesday night.

NEVC was bested in the first set 26-24, but then bounced back to take sets two and three by scores of 26-24, 26-24.

The Lady Knights were led by Mary Thoreson, as the senior outside hitter tallied eight aces; while junior outside hitter Makinsey Conner, chipped in with five kills.

“We really fought for the win,” said fifth-year NEVC head coach Erica Mott. “At times we would gain momentum and pull ahead, only to then allow the Lady Vikings (to get back in the match).”
