NHS XC competes in Fort Scott Invitational
After being idle for two weeks, the Nevada High School varsity and junior varsity cross country teams headed west on Highway 54 to compete at the 12-team Fort Scott (Kan.) Invitational. Nevada emerged with two varsity medal winners, as sophomore Calli Beshore placed second in the girls 5K, while junior Amara Pippin placed 15th.
As a team, the Tigers and Lady Tigers both finished in sixth.
This meet was extremely tough, with some of the most talented teams we will see this season, said NHS cross country coach Ryan Watts. We ran well on very sore legs, as we have put in a lot of miles this week and, I was pleased with how we ran after this weeks workouts.

Watts squad resumes running Sept. 12 when NHS heads to Bolivar for a meet.
It will likely be our toughest meet until (the West Central Conference meet), said Watts.
While it can be a bit of a shock to go up against such tough competition this early in the season, it is crucial for us to have difficult meets and significant challenges to keep us working to get better. After our first true meet of the season, I am happy with how we ran and the times we logged and am very excited to see what we can become.
