Lady Tiger netters edge Mt. Vernon

In a non-conference road match-up Thursday night, the Nevada Lady Tigers tennis team prevailed over Mt. Vernon, 5-4.

The victory improves Nevada to 5-2 overall.

Singles matches

At No. 1 singles, Nevada’s Emma Cheaney had it on cruise control en route to an 8-1 defeat of Lyndsey Hood.

At No. 2 singles, Nevada’s Erika Watanabe dealt Abby Rinker an 8-4 defeat.

At No. 3 singles, Mt. Vernon’s Stevie Meirick nipped Katherine Pruitt, 8-6.

At No. 4 singles, Lady Tigers senior Mikena Padgett doubled up Brandee Loftus, 8-4.

At No. 5 singles, Mt. Vernon’s Alane Cordray bested Hallie Short, 8-1.

At No. 6 singles, Mt. Vernon’s Katelyn Grider notched an 8-3 victory over Kensi Hogan.

Doubles matches

At No. 1 doubles, Nevada’s top duo — Cheaney and Watanabe collected an 8-4 victory over the team of Hood and Rinker,

At No. 2 doubles, Pruitt and Hogan fell to Meirick and Cordray, 8-2.

At No. 3 doubles, Padgett and Short clinched the decisive victory, upending Loftus and Grider, 8-6.
