The Northeast Vernon County Lady Knights volleyball team absorbed its first defeat of the season, falling last week at home to Miami in a Golden Valley Vernon County conference matchup.

NEVC (5-1, overall, 3-1 GVVC) fell in the first set 25-20, and was edged in the second set, 25-21.

“This was a very close game, with the score going back-and-forth the entire time,” noted NEVC head coach Erica Mott.

Continued Mott: “I saw the tremendous heart from my girls; they were putting forth their best effort in order to win this game. I could tell that winning was very important to them and that they were going to do what it took to win.”

For NEVC, Kierston Diamond tallied five aces, while Makinsey Conner and Kelly Dade chipped in three kills apiece.

“By the end of both sets our errors had gotten the best of us and, unfortunately we had lost,” said Mott. “Losing isn’t all bad all the time. It helps us learn and grow as players and coaches. Our girls have learned from mistakes made and are ready for a rematch on Thursday.”
