Monday, October 2, 2017

The Nevada High School Athletics Wall of Fame committee recently announced the induction of its newest members, Larry Householder and Jim Olson. The pair will be honored at halftime of the Tigers regular-season home finale, Oct. 13 against Clinton at Logan Field.

According to the press release, “Larry Householder was a member of the Nevada High School class of 1967. He was a three-time letterman for the Nevada Tiger football team (1964-66). In 1965, Larry rushed for over 1,000 yards as a junior. The following season, he was named honorable mention all-conference. During his senior season, he rushed for close to 1,400 yards (with Householder) being named first team all-conference, first-team all-district and third-team all-state.

“In 1966, there was only a single all-state team named for (Missouri high school football). The 1966 football Tigers were one of the most successful teams in the history of Nevada High School. They finished the season with an unblemished record (10-0).”

The release continued: “Jim Olson was a member of the Nevada High School class of 1967. He was a three-time letterman for the Nevada Tiger football team (1964-66).

“(Olson) was big, tough, and aggressive. His punishing style resulted in a second-team all-conference selection as a junior in 1965. As a senior Olson was named first-team all-conference.

Olson had a big senior campaign in 1966, garnering first team all (Big 10) accolades, while also being named the Nevada Tiger Back of the Year, and the Nevada Tiger Most Inspirational Player.

According to the release, “(Olson) coupled with Householder to form one of the finest offensive backfields in the history of Nevada Tiger football. After graduating from NHS, (Olson) attended the University of Missouri and was recognized by the MU football coaching staff for being one of their top freshmen contributors. At MU, (Olson) converted to playing on both the offensive and defensive lines, while continuing to utilize the kicking skills he displayed as a Nevada Tiger.”
