Friday, November 24, 2017

The Hume Lady Hornets had a dominant opening to their 2017-18 hoops campaign, steamrolling the Miami Eagles 43-15, Tuesday night at home.

Hume (1-0, 1-0 GVVC) came out on fire, opening the Golden Valley Vernon County Conference match-up on a 15-0 blitz. Hume then led 22-6 at halftime. The Lady Hornet lead then swelled to 25, after outscoring Miami 11-2 in the third quarter. Hume then outscored the visitors 10-7 in the fourth quarter, for the final 28-point margin.

The Lady Hornets were led by senior guard Karlee Metcalf, who tallied a game-high 14 points, to go along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Lady Hornet junior forward Hannah Gorda, chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds, while forward Emmah Fillpot added 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals.

“We came out strong to start the game,” said second-year Lady Hornets head coach, Heath Heckadon. “The girls played with a lot of energy and passion. We did let up in the second quarter after I subbed a few girls. We can’t let up against the top teams in our conference — but the girls did rebound and picked it back up for a good first win.”
