The Nevada Tiger football team was honored at its postseason awards banquet, held Sunday, Dec. 3 at the school.
Those in attendance included student-athletes, parents and guests. Nevada head football coach Wes Beachler, addressed the audience, discussing the team’s many achievements during the successful 2017 campaign.
Nine Nevada Tiger football players were tabbed as All-West Central Conference selections. A pair of Nevada seniors, Hunter Mason and Braxton Shadden garnered recognition on both sides of the ball. Mason, who has verbally committed to play football for NCAA Division I Western Illinois University, earned all-conference accolades as a wide receiver and linebacker. Meanwhile, Shadden, who rushed for 1,093 yards and 13 touchdowns, was selected as a running back and strong safety. Also making the All-West Central Conference team, were Nevada Tiger standouts Trevor Olson (linebacker), Alec Baker (defensive end); Tanner Gotschall (free safety); Peyton Denney (guard); and Treyton Fleeman (offensive tackle). In addition, Zach Gardner (linebacker) and Shelby Trotter (running back) picked up honorable mention accolades.
“This is a group of deserving young men,” Beachler told the Daily Mail. “They played the game the right way — with toughness, playing hard from snap-to-whistle, and with class and character. They represented Nevada football well the entire year, and they were recognized for it.”
In addition, Southwest Missouri Football Coaches Association All-Area selections were recently announced, with seven Nevada Tigers netting (class 4) accolades. Hunter Mason was selected as a first-team tight end, while sophomore Peyton Denney was a first-team offensive line selection.
