The Nevada Tiger and Lady Tiger C-teams notched a pair of impressive victories over the visiting Pleasant Hill Roosters and Chicks — Tuesday night on the Wynn Gym hardwood.

In the opener, the Lady Tigers dispatched Pleasant Hill 35-28, and in the night cap, the Tiger boys held off a late Roosters’ rally, en route to a 50-42 victory.

In the girls contest, Nevada trailed 17-16 at the break, before grabbing a 25-24 lead heading into the fourth. Trailing by a point early in the fourth, freshman Kaylee Duncan’s nothing-but-net 3-pointer from the right wing, put the Lady Tigers back in front, 28-26.

On Nevada’s ensuing possession, Duncan drilled a contested 18-footer from the right-side, extending Nevada’s advantage to 30-26.

With Nevada holding a two-point lead late in the fourth, several Pleasant Hill defenders converged on Duncan in the right corner. Duncan then threaded a pass to Rebecca Cox on the right block — with the freshman forward then dropping in two of her game-high 13 points, as Nevada pulled away for the seven-point victory.

“We picked up our defensive pressure in the second half,” said Nevada C-team head coach, Kori Dodson.

Dodson added that she was impressed with the all-around performance of Duncan.

“Kaylee played really well tonight,” said Dodson, as Duncan finished with eight points, including a pair of second half threes. “It wasn’t just her shooting, but she was also driving and kicking to the post for lay-ins.”

The victory improves the Lady Tigers to 5-3 overall.

In the boys contest, Nevada opened on a 17-2 run, capped by freshman guard Kaden Denney’s fade-away jumper. Nevada eventually increased its advantage to 27-9 midway through the second quarter, before Pleasant Hill closed out the half on an 16-2 blitz, trimming its deficit to 29-25 at the break.

The Roosters continued to lock down defensively in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 6-2 in the third, to knot the contest, 31-31.

Nevada freshman guard Lane McNeley had other ideas, however, opening the final stanza with a left wing 3-pointer to put Nevada up 34-31. With under three minutes remaining, the Tigers increased their lead to 43-33. Pleasant Hill’s Dylan Orpin then heated up from long-range, as a pair of triples sparked a 9-2 Rooster run, slicing Nevada’s lead to 45-42.

Dennney and McNeley, however, salted away the game from the charity stripe, combining to go 9-of-12 in the fourth to seal the victory. McNeley finished with a game-high 17 points.

“This was probably the most physical team we’ve played all season,” said Nevada head coach Ross Wolfe, as the Tigers improve to 12-1.
