Records were set often during Nevada Middle School’s 2018 track-and-field season. Those setting new marks, were eighth-graders Claire Pritchett, Lilly Hart, and Laura Kimmell.

• At the April 3 Carthage meet, Pritchett set a new mark in the shot put, with a toss of 38’1”, surpassing the previous school record (37’7.5”) set by Brooklyn Vincent in 2011.

Pritchett smashed her own record at the April 17 Lamar Middle School Invitational, with a throw of 39’11”. Pritchett then tied her own mark two days later at the Webb City Invitational. At the April 24 Joplin Invitational, Pritchett continued to dazzle, as her season-best shot put throw of 40’1”, also went down as a new NMS record-record.

• Also at the April 3 Carthage meet, Hart leapt to a new long jump record, with the official jump measured at 15’5.5”. Hart’s mark eclipsed Megan Hold’s jump of 15’3” set in 2013.

Hart then broke her own record on April 12 at Nevada’s home Invitational, held at Larry Testman Track, as her leap of 15’7” again re-wrote the NMS record books.

• At the April 23 El Dorado Springs Invitational, Kimmell put her name in the school’s record book, tying Laura Foster’s 2002 pole vault mark of 8-feet.

Kimmell, however, wasn’t finished. At the April 24 Joplin Middle School Invitational, she cleared 8’6”, vaulting to a new school record. Also at the meet, Hart cleared 8-feet, as Foster, Kimmell, and Hart were brief locked in a school-record three-way tie.

Kimmell, however, had even more in store, tying her own record (8’6”,) at the season-ending Tri-County Conference meet in Joplin.

“In addition to the three student-athletes who broke school records, we had many outstanding performances throughout the season,” said NMS head track-and-field coach, Marsha Hooper.

Hooper added that student-athletes were awarded points for top eight finishes, and that the accumulation of those points could result in a student receiving a High-Point certificate at the conclusion of the season.
