Lady Tiger netters tripped up by Mount Vernon, bounce back against CJ
After opening the season with three consecutive 9-0 victories, the Nevada Lady Tiger tennis team was upended 5-4 in a Big 8 Conference road match Sept. 13 at the Mount Vernon Lady Mountaineers.
The Nevada High Netters (4-1) then rebounded with a 7-2 non-conference road victory on Monday over Carl Junction.
• Against Carl Junction, Nevada’s No. 1 Erica Watanabe knocked off Abigail Hodson, 8-2.
• Nevada’s No. 2 Hallie Short surged past Taylor Storm, 8-3.
• Nevada’s No. 3 Eden Fisher prevailed over Morgan Wilkins, 8-5.
• Competing at No. 4 singles, Nevada’s Carlie McCaffree trumped Tatum Graham, 8-3.
• Meanwhile, Nevada’s No. 5 Peyton Claypool was upended by by Kennedy Bondy, 4-8.
• Wrapping singles play, Nevada’s No. 6 Madalyn Koenig was doubled up by Madeline Blackford, 4-8.
In doubles-play, Nevada’s top tandem Short and Fisher weathered Storm and Hodson, 8-6.
Nevada’s No. 2 duo Watanabe and Claypool edged Wilkins and Graham 8-8 (7-1 tiebreak).
Concluding play at No. 3 doubles, McCaffree and Koenig breezed past Bondy and Blackford, 8-3.
