Comets fall hard to No. 6 College of the Ozarks, 84-47
Lights out long-range shooting lifted College of the Ozarks to a convincing 84-47 victory over the Cottey Comets Tuesday evening at Hinkhouse Center.
COO, the No. 6 ranked team in NAIA D-II women’s basketball was unconscious from beyond the arc, drilling 14-of-22 (64 percent), including eight in the first half as COO opened a 44-26 lead at the break.
Cottey (0-10) closed the first half on a quick 4-0 spurt, and opened the second half with a three-ball from Kelsey Acton, capping a 7-0 Comets’ run.
COO (14-2) responded with an 11-0 blitz, increasing their advantage to 55-29 midway through the third, as the Comets were unable to recover — trailing 70-39 entering the fourth.
COO had four players crack double-figure scoring, as Cassidy Johnson and Kelsie Cleeton shared game-high scoring honors with 15 points piece. Acton, meanwhile, paced Cottey with 15 points, and was the only Comet to finish in double-digit scoring.
The Comets connected on 12-of-27 (44 percent) first half field goal attempts, but went cold in the second half, knocking down 9-of-30 (30 percent).
