Nevada tennis team defeats Carthage, improves to 9-1

Thursday, April 18, 2019

A 6-3 non-conference victory over Carthage Wednesday at the Nevada H.S. tennis courts, improved the Nevada Tigers to 9-1 overall.

“Our Marathon week continued with the win over Carthage,” said Nevada head coach, Clayton Wheeler. “(And) we were short (a varsity player) tonight.”

Added Wheeler: “We had a couple of rough matches on the bottom end of our singles lineup. But we started out strong again in doubles, and swept (them) with three bagels (shutouts). We were very proud of the effort from all of our players tonight.”

Wednesday’s match was Nevada’s third in as many days.

“It’s been a long week so far, and we still have one match this week to play,” Wheeler said. “(We) are keeping focus, and working hard on the courts. We want to finish the week out strong against Big 8 Conference opponent, Monett.”
