Comets drill Ecclesia, 88-45
The Cottey Comet basketball team easily dispatched Ecclesia (Ark.) College, 88-45, Thursday night at Hinkhouse Center.
Cottey (4-6) raced to a 21-11 first quarter lead. The Comets then outscored the beleaguered visitors 23-9 in the second quarter, and led by 24 at the half.
Cottey held a 30-point advantage through three quarters of play, and continued to pour it on in the fourth, coasting to the 43-point victory.
Guard Latasha Griggs paced five Comets in double-figure scoring, concluding with a career-high 21 points. Griggs' dazzling all-around effort also included six rebounds, four steals, and three assists — while connecting on 7-of-13 from the field, and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Also tallying double-figure scoring totals for Cottey were Kelsey Acton (18), Tatem Edeler (16), Lindsey Talavera (12), and Cassie Ogden (10). The Comets also connected on 26-of-37 free throw attempts.
Additionally, Cottey outrebounded Ecclesia, 55-40, and held them to 16-of-61 (26 percent) from the field.
