Sheldon boys defeat Hume 62-53, Lady Panthers fall
The taste of victory was sweet for the Sheldon Panther boys' basketball team Tuesday, as a 62-53 triumph over the visiting Hume Hornets vanquished a 16-game losing streak. The Panthers previous victory came back on Dec. 6.
For Sheldon, senior forward Dylan Brzuchowski detonated for a game-high 31 points. Additionally for the Panthers, Isaac Hall chipped in eight points, and Judd Loyd concluded with six points, while also drawing a pair of key charges.
Sheldon's William Chapman, meanwhile. was 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
"We finally figured out how to finish a game," said Sheldon head coach, Caleb Howerton. "Our defensive-plan worked, and offensively we were cutting to the basket with ease. We still had a lot of turnovers, but we are getting better at the little things — and I couldn't be prouder. And, we finally started running in transition."
In the other half of the varsity twinbill, Sheldon's Lady Panthers were upended by the Lady Hornets of Hume, 44-42 .
The teams met up again on Thursday, this time in Hume. The Hornet boys avenged Tuesday's loss, rolling to a 45-30 victory. The Lady Hornets, led by Braelynn Morrison's game-high 12 points, completed the season-sweep of the Lady Panthers, with a 43-35 win.
Thursday's results move the Hume boys to 8-12 overall, the Lady Hornets to 11-9; the Sheldon boys to 2-19; and the Lady Panthers to 8-14.
