Barbara Sue “Barb” Jacks

Barbara Sue “Barb” Jacks, 77, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, at her home, in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. Barb was born Nov. 1, 1942, in Nevada, to Elmer E. and Luella S. (Ainsworth) Bailey. She was raised in Nevada by her mother and stepfather, Charles Rutledge. She married Bill Jacks on Nov. 28, 1980, in Nevada, and he survives of the home.

Barb grew up in Nevada and attended Nevada High School graduating in 1960. Throughout her life she worked as a cook at numerous schools including Nevada R-5 schools, Cottey College, and Bronaugh R-7 school retiring in 2005. Barb enjoyed cooking, not only at work but also for her family. She also enjoyed going on road trips with Bill and being with her family. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Nevada. And a 75 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

In addition to her husband, Bill, she is survived by four stepchildren, Donni Thomas (Jason), Becky Bruner (Jeremy), Shane Jacks, and Karen Edmonds (David), all of Wichita, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Chuck Rutledge, Nevada; a sister-in-law, Lynn Felber, Overland Park, Kan.; two brothers-in-law, Jim Coffey (Dana), Inola, Okla., and Mike Jacks, Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lindsey Cunningham; two brothers-in-law, Danny Jacks, and Howard Felber; and a niece, Jody Jacks.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 24, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Roger Beach officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested in her memory to Nevada Public Library in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

At this time there are no limitations on the number of people attending funerals or visitations, however those in attendance will be asked to maintain social distancing, and that people are welcome to and, indeed, are encouraged to wear face mask to protect themselves and others.
