Plans are moving forward for building demolition and clean up at Cherry and Cedar.

According to Nevada City Manager Mark Mitchel on Monday, the family that owns the building is working with the city to lay out a plan to finish the demolition and to clean up the lot. Mitchell said that the emergency order issued by the city required a plan to be in place by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23. He explained that the city rarely has to fund the demolition and removal of a building but when it is required, the city must pay the prevailing wage which adds 20-35 percent to the cost of the project.

There are currently 41 buildings on Nevada's Dangerous Building report. This includes a former restaurant at 701 E Cherry St. and a building at 1211 N. Osage which burned recently. The other buildings on the list are in various stages of the process from the issuance of repair permits to prosecution.

A list of Nevada's Dangerous Buildings is attached to the report section of the Nevada City Council agenda each month and is available on the city website.
