If any Nevada High School baseball fans were experiencing deja vu watching the Tigers play Monett and Seneca back-to-back for the second time in seven days, the outcomes of the two most recent games surely snapped them back to reality.
After losing to the Cubs and then barely beating the Indians to close out the Bill O’Dell Tournament last week, the Tigers roared in the rematches — first with a delicious 10-4 revenge game victory over Monett on the road Tuesday before run-ruling Seneca 16-5 Thursday afternoon at Lyons Stadium.
Nevada (10-1 overall, 2-0 in the Big 8 West) spotted Seneca (8-7, 2-2) two runs in the top of the first on two hits and an error, only to make up for it with two runs in the home half of the frame thanks to an RBI base hit by Blake Pryor and a sacrifice fly by Elijah Nadurata.
Pryor, who started on the bump, would not allow another run in the rest of his four innings of work.
The Tiger offense, on the other hand, tore up Seneca starter Lance Stephens and relievers Drew Sampson and Austin Fergerson — plating four runs in the second, six in the third, and four more in the fourth to end the game after five.
Case Sanderson led the way, racking up three hits, three runs, and three RBIs. Two of those runs he drove in came on a bases-loaded single to right in the bottom of the third. He also hit a towering fly ball to center with the bases juiced in the fourth, but Seneca’s centerfielder misplayed it, allowing two more runs to score.
Nevada strung together four hits in a row in the second inning off the bats of Cade Beshore, Eli Cheaney, Sanderson, and Pryor.
In the third, Nevada reached base on two walks, a bunt single, and three more base hits.
In the fourth: four walks (including two with the bases loaded), one hit-by-pitch, and one hit.
Drake Seaver came on in relief in the fifth, giving up two runs on two doubles before retiring the next three batters.
Nevada will host Carl Junction at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lyons Stadium.
