Tigers youth sports camps off and running
Playing video games in the air conditioning was fun while it lasted, but many area youngsters have decided to get some exercise this summer — and learn the fundamentals of hoops and football along the way.
The Nevada Tigers Basketball Youth Summer Skills Camp conducted its third Monday of activity this week, with one more to go next week, inside Wynn Gymnasium.
Nevada High School boys basketball head coach Shaun Gray, with the help of his assistant coaches and players, has been teaching dozens of boys and girls entering grades 1-6 the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense.
On Tuesday on Logan Field and the practice area, NHS head football coach Wes Beachler and his staff and players kicked off the Nevada Tigers Youth Football Camp for interested players entering grades 3-6.
The camp, which aims to teach kids the techniques and discipline to block, defend, and (of course) score touchdowns, saw more than 70 attendees. It will continue Wednesday before concluding Thursday.
Next week, Beachler and co. will conduct the Nevada Tigers Middle School Football Camp for players entering grades 7-8.
The High School Football Camp, meanwhile, is taking place all this week and next.
