For players at football camp, the end zone is usually their favorite place to be.

For the 60 or so seventh and eighth-graders training at the Nevada Tigers Middle School Football Camp, the most popular spot so far this week has been in the shade.

During the hottest stretch of days so far this summer, the unforgiving sun has made running routes and manhandling tackling sleds extra difficult for Tigers looking for a leg up on the upcoming season — requiring Nevada High School head coach Wes Beachler and the Nevada Middle School coaching staff to provide extended rehydration breaks and some days even move up camp by nearly an hour.

The camp began on Monday and will run for a couple of hours each morning until Thursday, soon after the conclusion of each session of the high school camp. Like that camp, this one is taking place on the practice area next to Logan Field.

When not cooling down, players have been learning and practicing plays, developing proper technique, and running position-specific drills.
