Mustangs muster another MINK League champ.
The St. Joseph Mustangs earned their second MINK League championship in as many seasons — with 2020's lost season lingering between the two — by beating the Sedalia Bombers 12-2 this past weekend at Phil Welch Stadium.
The blowout was St. Joseph's second win in the best-of-three championship series, following last week's 9-7 road victory in game one.
Sedalia (21-18) had a one-run lead after the first inning in the must-win game, but the Mustangs (25-20) responded with four runs in the fourth, two each in the fifth and sixth, and another four in the seventh. The Bombers, meanwhile, managed just one more run the rest of the way.
Sam Kissane led St. Joe's offense with two hits and two runs batted in, while teammate Chase Spoonemore added three RBIs.
Starting pitcher Braden Barry struck out six batters in six innings of work, surrendering two earned runs on six hits.
Reliever Micah Diamond tossed one hitless inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
