NHS JV football fends off Logan-Rogersville, 34-20

Wednesday, September 1, 2021

The Nevada High School junior varsity football team on Monday picked up where the varsity squad left off last week, beating Logan-Rogersville by two touchdowns for a season-opening 34-20 victory on the road.

“We are very proud of the attitude and effort that our kids played with tonight,” stated NHS JV head coach Jerrod Alexander, whose team was able to hold on for the win after scoring on the opening drive and exchanging touchdowns with the Wildcats throughout the contest. “Our kids kept playing hard and answering when Logan Rogersville would close the gap.”

Freshman Jack Cheaney scored two rushing TDs for Nevada — one from 12 yards out in the first quarter, the next from four yards away in the fourth.

Junior Blake Cox added a 25-yard rushing score in the opening quarter.

Freshman Bodie Thorpe and sophomore Tucker Duncan each ran into the end zone in the third.

Junior Tayvin Moore led the defense with two interceptions.

The Tigers will next host Hollister for a JV game on Labor Day at Logan Field.
