Nevada JV football rebounds from first loss

Wednesday, September 29, 2021

The Nevada High School junior varsity football team put last week's loss behind it with a 46-34 win over Monett Monday at Logan Field.

Sophomore running back Tucker Duncan got the scoring started in the first quarter with an 8-yard touchdown trot (two-point conversion was no good).

In the second quarter, it was freshman Jack Cheaney's turn to run one in from eight yards out (Grady Stewart caught a pass from Gabe Smith for the two-point conversion).

Duncan then scored the next two TDs for the Tigers (4-1), first on an 80-yard pick-six right before halftime (Dezmon Robinson ran in the two-point conversion), then on a 40-yard TD run in the third quarter (two-point conversion was no good).

Smith ran one in from 10 yards out later in the period (two-point try no good) — before Blake Cox scored a 3-yard TD run and Cheaney added a 37-yard scoring run in the fourth.

Nevada will head to Seneca (3-2) on Monday.
