Tigers JV football comes back to beat Seneca
The Nevada High School junior varsity football team overcame a six-point halftime deficit to beat Seneca on the road Monday, 34-26.
Quarterback Gabe Smith put the Tigers on the board with a 48-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Longobardi in the first quarter (Tucker Duncan ran in the two-point conversion).
In the second quarter, Dezmon Robinson found the end zone on a 65-yard TD run (Bodie Thorp ran in the two-point conversion).
Down 22-16 at the break, Nevada's defense turned the game around in the third quarter when Longobardi recovered a fumble caused by Layne Webb — which the Tigers were able to convert into a 65-yard TD pass from Smith to Robinson.
Robinson then returned a 70-yard kickoff to the house.
Duncan added a 30-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter to put Nevada on top, and Steven Zachary sealed the victory with an interception with 30 seconds left.
"Tonight was a very physical football game," stated NHS head coach Jerrod Alexander, whose team will next host East Newton on Monday. "We are very proud of the way our kids kept responding to adversity and continued to play with great effort until the end.
"It was a great effort all around. Very proud of our kids."
