NEVC v-ball rallies back against Ballard
The Northeast Vernon County High School volleyball team was without one of its starting setters in a home match against Ballard on Tuesday, and it showed after the Lady Knights dropped the first two sets (17-25, 23-25).
But everything clicked for NEVC in the third set, and the Lady Knights were able to storm back (25-14, 25-18, 15-4) to win the match.
"It was a fun game to watch, but definitely nerve-wracking at times," stated NEVC head coach Emma Schellpeper, whose team improved to 12-4 with the comeback victory.
Schellpeper credited her JV captain, junior Brooklyn Foreman, for filling in the vacant setter spot on varsity and rising to the occasion.
"Though Brooklyn did a phenomenal job, there were some pains at the beginning of the game. The girls didn't click from the onset. Ballard also did a great job at finding the holes in our defense when attacking," Schellpeper stated. "By the third set, the girls began reading Ballard's attackers and anticipating where the ball would go. We also served more aggressively to throw off their serve-receive and weaken their offense."
NEVC will head to Bronaugh on Friday for a triangular with Miami.
