Fate of Earp Park caboose discussed

Saturday, February 19, 2022

Parks Board Chair Cyndia Haggard spoke to the Nevada City Council this week about plans to update Earp Park. The Nevada Lions Club has pledged to help beautify the park and have proposed installing a new, modern-looking fountain. Haggard noted that the board would also focus on beautifying the park by updating the landscaping and adding flower beds.

Haggard presented the idea to the council that the Parks Board would like to place the Earp Park caboose under surplus items and possibly give it to the county to place at Katy Allen Lake, if they so choose. Haggard stated that the caboose would not fit the new theme of the park and that significant repairs would need to be done to it.

Council member Lyndon Eberhard proposed they fix up the caboose (adding an ADA compliant ramp) and leave it at its current location. After much discussion, Haggard noted that the caboose would be recommended as surplus property and would be left up to the council for approval.
