Joan Doris Engle

Joan Doris Engle, 79, Liberal, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan. Joan was born June 24, 1942, in Nevada, Mo., to Lawrence and Dora (James) Rackley. She was united in marriage to Lonnie Engle on April 2, 1961, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death in 2010.

Joan was raised in Walker, Nevada, and Sheldon, graduating from Walker High School in 1960. She lived in Hume for a number of years and has resided in Liberal for the past 40 years. Joan was a member of the Christian Church of Liberal. She enjoyed crocheting, and taking care of her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Joan is survived by three children, Lonnie Joe Engle (Joyce), Liberal, Jonie Ray Engle (Tammy), Liberal, and Lona Linn Engle, Jefferson City, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Schooley Sr., Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Lonnie, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ronnie; two brothers, Charles Brown, and Donald James Brown Sr. (Jim); two sisters, Patricia Periman and Mary Dagley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 5, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Pastor Ray Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, in Nevada. The family will receive friend from 9:30 to 11 a.m., Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
