Retirement reception held for Sheldon's Principal Compton to honor 30 years of service
A retirement reception was held in the Sheldon’s school cafeteria on Friday, May 20, to honor Principal Compton for her 30 years of service. She started off as a teacher then moved up as Assistant Principal, and then became Principal.
Superintendent Irwin started off the reception by stating a few words about how great an asset she has been to the school, and then he presented her with a plaque in the absence of Missouri State Representative Patricia Pike.
President of the School Board Jerod Lamb and other school board members presented Compton with a plaque, as well. Irwin asked Compton if she had any last and final words to say. She said, “My only words I have to share are the ones that I stated at the graduation and to the elementary. After 30 years, I never felt like I was coming to a job, because I always said I’m going to school. I never felt like this was a job. I don’t know if there’s too many young ones here, but I wish you all to find a profession that it doesn’t feel like a job, that it’s what you want to do. You go to school and it’s what you do.”
She continued on by saying, “It’s been part of my life for the last 30 years and I love this community — the kids, and teachers. Thank you for allowing me to be here for so long.”
Besides teachers, staff, and administration of the school, her family was there as well.
