Elda Leo Turner
Elda “Slim” Turner, 89, passed away at his home in Nevada, Mo., on Friday, May 27, 2022. Slim was born on Nov. 23, 1932, in Stockton, Mo., to Elmer Lee and Sarah Francis (Fisher) Turner. He married Jimmy Ann Kanupp on Jan. 8, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nev., and she preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 2021.
Slim was raised in Stockton and graduated from Stockton High School Class of 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force from Febr. 6, 1953, to Dec. 1, 1954, during the Korean War. Slim came back to Nevada and worked as a plumber at the Nevada State Hospital for 25 years until his retirement in 1978.
Survivors include his son, Terry Turner (Lorraine); his daughter, Brenda Kerr (Robert), Nevada; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Jimmy Ann, he was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffrey Scott Turner; four brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Megan Allen officiating. Interment with military honors will follow National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan., at 12:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
