Griffons fall to 10-18 after tough Independence Day weekend
The now 10-18 Nevada Griffons went 1-2 this past Saturday, Sunday, and Monday after facing the Chillicothe Mudcats on July, 3rd, and the Joplin Outlaws July, 4th and 5th. While playing against Chillicothe Saturday evening at the Mudcats home stadium, Nevada won that with a final score of 6-4. The Mudcats scored four runs early in the bottom of the third inning while Nevada was still scoreless, the Griffons did score two runs each in the top of the fourth, sixth, and eighth innings of the ball game to win with 11 hits on the night.
On Sunday night in the home field for the Griffons at Lyons Stadium was not what local fans wanted to see. The Joplin Outlaws were 1-4 in the match ups so far against Nevada, but made their record against the Griffons a bit better by notching up a win. The game was runless til the top of the third, where the Outlaws scored seven runs. Then they even topped it off in the top of the fourth with five more runs added to their side of the scoreboard, which left Nevada down by 12 and still scoreless. They did however gain one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but would lose the game 12-1.
Finally, the Griffons played the Outlaws one more time on the evening of the fourth of July, but the sparks never reached Nevada’s dugout. The Joplin Outlaws at their home ballpark of Joe Becker Stadium scored six runs in the bottom of the third, five runs in the bottom of the fourth, and two runs in the bottom of the fifth to have a 13-0 lead heading to the top of the sixth. That is where Nevada scored their only two runs of the night and left Joplin with fireworks flying in the sky with a final score of 13-2, and with seven games played against the Outlaws, Nevada is now 4-3. The Griffons do play this evening at Jefferson City, Mo., against the Jefferson City Renegades, and look to battle back for a win. That game starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
