Nevada Tiger youth and high school football camps getting underway

Saturday, July 16, 2022

After a successful football season last year, the Nevada Tigers are ready to kick off a summer camp for high schoolers as well as the youth. With a 9-3 season last year, Head Coach for the Tigers Football program Wes Beachler is as excited as ever to get the new season underway.

“It's always exciting to kick-off the start of another season,” exclaimed Beachler, talking to Nevada Daily Mail. “There is a lot at stake during the two weeks of high school camp. We get an opportunity to see what they have learned over the summer. We also get to see where they are physically going against other individuals in the program. Everyone will be evaluated daily."

Both camps are requiring athletes to bring football cleats, athletic shoes, shorts, and a shirt to participate in, and the camps will be held at the practice field just adjacent to Logan Field by the High School.

The High School football camp will be from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. from July 18th through the 28th, mainly going over plays and routine that they will face during the season once it officially starts. A new year also means a new senior class that will lead the team on and off the field. Beachler goes into the unique history of the class of 2023, and how far they have come since the beginning of the high school football career.

“It has been a pleasure to coach this group of seniors all the way through high school,” Beachler quotes. “They are a unique bunch that has overcome a horrible freshman year, a year in which many of them were forced to start prematurely for various reasons. They were then part of a 7-4 season their sophomore year, and then 9-3 as Juniors. Great group, great young men with great leadership."

Beachler also comments on the new athletes joining the program. “We have added some young men to our program, and it will be interesting to see how and where they fit into our system. We have had as many as 90 young men in attendance over the course of summer workouts, and we’re anticipating 75-85 players for this year's camp.”

The youth camp will consist of three days between July 18th through the 20th, with times being 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Beachler says, “The youth camp is more about basic drills and skills. They will learn the same techniques but we do not delve into much of our system.”

The camp could tell us how the Nevada Tigers will do in the 11 man football season, which the first game is August 26th at Springfield Catholic in Springfield, Mo., starting at 6 p.m. For more information on the camps, contact Wes Beachler at wbeachler@nevada.k12.mo.us.
