Walker hosts taco salad and ice cream picnic
Individuals in and around Walker got to go out and enjoy a taco salad and homemade ice cream picnic in the city park Sunday afternoon, July 31. The meal was provided by the Walker Community Betterment Committee. Along with the meal, they were selling tickets for a shot gun and a quilt, that will be drawn for at the Walker Fun Days, which will be Sept. 16-18.
President of the Walker Community Betterment Committee Raye Swopes said that this made their third year in having the taco salad and homemade ice cream picnic in the city park. Swopes clarified where the proceeds from the picnic go to. “First of all, it helps to support Walker Fun Days," she stated. "Next, the funds go towards updating things in the park — such as, the metal top to the shelter building, along with the electricity; the metal roof of the bathrooms; and even helps out community members in case their might have been a death in the family or for family emergencies.”
She further stated, “The immediate plans that the committee has is repainting the playground equipment in the park; replacing the basketball goals (from the wooden ones to the metal ones); and redoing the tennis court, hopefully, all by the time Walker Fun Days starts.”
