Gladys “Ellen” Schmidt
Gladys “Ellen” Schmidt, 70, Nevada, Mo., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at Medicalodges in Nevada, Mo. Ellen was born in Nevada, Mo., on Oct. 13, 1951, to James Lavern Chrisenbery and Mary Oletha Chrisenbery. In 1972, she was married to Lynn Schmidt, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
Ellen attended High School in Metz, Mo., and after graduating she attended cosmetology school and worked as a hair stylist for many years. She then started focusing on staying at home to raise her boys and manage the home while her husband, Lynn, was driving over the road. Ellen cleaned houses and had various other jobs. She started employment with Farm & Home savings, which later became U.S. Bank, and worked in loan servicing for 20 years before retiring due to health issues.
Ellen was a committed Christian and active in church ministry. She enjoyed teaching women’s classes and loved mentoring children. She also ministered with her husband in the local nursing homes for many years and supported Lynn in his pastoral duties. She was always a Christ-like example to everyone she met and left a legacy of love and joy in all aspects of her life.
Ellen enjoyed the lake life, getting together with friends and family, and spending her weekends with Lynn. They would take “day trips” shopping, eating, and enjoying time together. Ellen was a beautiful woman inside and out and took great pride in putting on her best every time she left the house. You could often find her in her recliner with a blanket and her puppies on her lap.
Ellen is survived by her husband, Lynn Schmidt, Nevada, Mo.; brother, Frank Chrisenbery (Yvonne); children, Matt Schmidt (Amber), and Corey Schmidt (Olesya); and was a loving Nana to Tyler, Caleb, Dylan, Cayden, Morgan, Angelina and great-grandchildren, Rhett and Violet.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Pastor Jerod Lamb officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Ferry Funeral Home.
