Editor's Note: The Nevada Daily Mail contacted Head Coach Jerrod Alexander for the Nevada Girls Wrestling program and below are his responses.
How do you feel about your team's performance at the Big 8 Conference Tournament Hosted in Wynn Gymnasium?
It was really cool to host the Girls Big 8 Conference tournament this season. A lot of hard work and preparation took place to get ready for the tournament we are very thankful for everyone that helped get everything set up and helped the tournament run smoothly
We were really pleased with how our girls competed on the mat. We wrestled tough in every match and are continuing to improve every time we compete. There are a lot of real quality wrestlers in our conference and we are proud of the way our girls continue to learn and grow and get better every time we compete. It was a good night for us and we were a handful of matches from being conference champions as a team.
How does it feel to be voted at the Big 8 Conference Coach of the year?
It is an honor to have been voted as the conference coach of the year. I am so thankful for some really great kids that we get to coach that deserve the credit for the success that we have had on the mat this season. I also am extremely thankful for the other coaches on our staff that work really hard and do so much for both the girls and the boys programs. It's an honor to coach with some great men who are good coaches and great role models. Lastly, I'm thankful for my wife Katie for all of the sacrifices that she makes to allow me the opportunity to do what I love working with kids and coaching. It is truly an honor, and I am very thankful.
What is the mindset of your team as the season comes to a close as we get closer to districts?
Wrestling season is a grind and it's physically and mentally draining. We are really proud of the way that the girls are handling it and continue to push through it. It is going to be important for us down the stretch here to continue to take advantage of every opportunity we get in the practice room to improve and get better so that we are wrestling our very best when districts come up in a couple of weeks.
