Ronald Wayne Sloan
Ronald Wayne Sloan, 71, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, surrounded by loved ones in his home in rural Nevada following a lengthy illness. Ron was born Oct. 4, 1951, in Shelbyville, Ill., to Wallace E. and Maxine (Carlini) Sloan. He married Karen L. Hambright on Sept. 27, 1975, in Nevada, Mo., and she survives of the home.
Ron grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1969. Following high school, he attended Pratt Junior College where he played football. He then attended the University of Northern Colorado and played center on the “Bears” football team. Ron graduated in 1974 majoring in Chemistry and Zoology. He was a second degree blackbelt in Taekwondo. Ron worked with his father, Wally for 35 years at Sloan Construction, was foreman of the Vernon County Bridge Department for 10 years, and for several years was a self-employed backhoe operator “Sloan Backhoe."
In addition to his wife Karen of the home, he is survived by two children: Veronica Prough (Deland), Schell City, Mo., and Jason Sloan, Nevada; two grandsons, Jaxon Prough, and Weston Prough; his mother, Maxine Sloan, Nevada; a sister, Connie Barker (Jim), Nevada; and an uncle, Billie E. Carlini, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his father, Wally Sloan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Steve Dean officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, in Nevada. Friends may call from Thursday, Feb. 23, until the hour of service on Monday.
