John Seldon Johnson
John Seldon Johnson, 94, of Kansas City, passed away April 17, 2023. Masonic and funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 22, at the Park Lawn Chapel, Hillcrest Road at 83rd Street, Kansas City, Mo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial with military honors will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Boy Scouts of America Heart of America Council or to the Ararat Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund.
John was born Nov. 27, 1928, in Moundville, Mo., the son of Brooks K. and Elizabeth (Gulliford) Johnson. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John was united in marriage to Neoma Betty Stewart on Jan. 1, 1953, in Nevada, Mo. He was a Journeyman Electrician for Shaw Electric more than 30 years, retiring in 1991, and was a member of IBEW Local 124. John was active in Scouting and an Honorary Warrior and Sachem in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a member of Longview Chapel Christian Church. He was also a member of Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge, was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Kansas City, and a member of Ararat Shrine Temple. At Ararat, John was a longtime member and served as Director of the Guides Unit and volunteered for 20 years for Hospital Transportation.
Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Neoma; daughters, Jewell Davis and Judy Anders; granddaughter, Tina Anders; two brothers and a sister. Survivors include his son, John E. Johnson of Nevada, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 ten great-great-grandchildren; a stepsister; and three stepbrothers.
