Golden Valley Vernon County Conference Tournament underway at Sheldon

The Golden Valley Vernon County (GVVC) Conference Tournament got underway Monday evening, Nov. 27, at Sheldon Schools.

Bronaugh vs. Chilhowee

The first contest of the evening was between the Bronaugh Lady Wildcats and the Chilhowee Lady Indians.

The Lady Wildcats struggled throughout the first quarter, only being able to score 5 points, while the Lady Indians were able to put up 23 points. Bronaugh was able to slow down the Lady Indians in the second quarter, when Chilhowee was only able to score 9 points, while Bronaugh was able to put 7 points on the board.

Coming out of halftime, matters only got worse for the Lady Wildcat in the third quarter. They scored 6 points while Chilhowee continued to dominate, putting up 15 points.

Even though the Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Indians in the fourth quarter, 6-4, it wasn’t enough for the Lady Wildcats. Chilhowee took the win, 51-24.

The following Lady Wildcats scored throughout the game: Gretchen Banes, 15 points; Haylie Million, 6 points; and Nellie Earnest, 3 points.

Hume Hornets vs Chilhowee

The second action for the evening was between the Hume Hornets and the Chilhowee Indians. Hume showed the Indians that they were unstoppable in the first quarter by outscoring Chilhowee, 20-6. The Hornets also dominated in the second quarter, outscoring the Indians, 20-11. Going into the third quarter, Hume continuously showed who was in control of the court by outscoring the Indians, 25-12. In the last quarter of the game, Chilhowee was able to slow down the Hornets by scoring considerably, but it wasn’t enough. Each team scored 6 points. Hume took the win with a score of 71-35.

The following Hornets scored throughout the game: Bryson Morrison, 26 points; Beriah Morrison, 19 points; Nate Harris, 19 points; Owen Scott, 3 points; Ean Gwinn, 3 points; and Levi Scott, 1 point.

Sheldon vs. Miami

The third game of the evening was between the Sheldon Lady Panthers and the Miami Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles came out controlling the floor in the first quarter, outscoring Sheldon, 14-10. It was the same routine for the second quarter, with Miami continuing to rule the Lady Panthers by outscoring them, 14-8. After coming out of halftime and getting refocused, the Lady Panthers shut the Lady Eagles down, holding their opponent to only one point in the third. Sheldon was able to add another 10 points and kept their momentum going for the fourth quarter, outscoring Miami, 9-4. The Lady Panthers took the win, 37-33.

The following Lady Panthers scored throughout the game: Mariam Lamb, 21 points; Wynsdae Connelly, 10 points; and Tori Staudt, 6 points.

Montrose vs. Northeast Vernon County

For the last contest of the evening, the Montrose Bluejays took on the Northeast Vernon County (NEVC) Knights. The Knights put up a good fight throughout the game, but the Bluejays outscored them by one point in the first quarter, 10-9. Again in the second quarter, the Knights trailed Montrose by 21 points. After halftime, the Bluejays came out stronger and determined to show that they came to win by outscoring NEVC, 14-8 in the third quarter. Even though the Knights fought hard in the fourth quarter, it just wasn’t enough. The Bluejays outscored the Knights by one point, 9-8 and Montrose took the win, 42-34.

The following Knights scored throughout the game: Sam Herrin, 7 points; Nylo Foster, 6 points; Weston Prough, 6 points; Draven Walters, 5 points; Brody Dade, 4 points; and Rex Davis, 2 points.

The tournament continues through Saturday.
