Nevada school board enacts new concealed weapons policy
Nevada R-5 schools will soon implement new rules relating to concealed weapons. The recently overridden veto resulting in the state's allowing concealed weapons to those with permits, concerned R-5 superintendent Ted Davis, who called the legislation flawed. Davis pointed out that a person with a permit would no longer be committing a crime if they carried a weapon onto school property but would only have to leave the property when asked. If they refuse they could be cited and fined $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second and the citations may prevent the person from maintaining or renewing the permit. The board also voted to re-affirm the districts existing policy of no weapons at school and states that no one may carry a firearm onto school property except for on-duty law enforcement officers.
