NHS softball falls to Carthage
CARTHAGE, Mo. -- Nevada High School girls softball team suffered an 11-1 run-rule loss to Carthage on Thursday. The second straight conference defeat dropped the Lady Tigers' record to 1-2. Nevada's offense, led by Bridget Baldwin who went 3-for-3, outhit Carthage 10-6. Afton Baldwin, Mallori Adams and Erica Klinksick collected two hits apiece. Adams singled in Nevada's only run in the top of the fifth. Baserunning mistakes cost the Tigers chances to put more runs on the board. "We just have to clean up the way we play the game, mentally," said Nevada coach Chris Garzone, "as far as knowing what we have to do on the basepaths." Bridget Baldwin (1-2) went the distance and took the loss. Carthage jumped to a 6-0 lead after two innings and added five more in the fourth and fifth frames. Nevada's junior varsity lost 11-5 to Carthage in a five-inning contest. Carthage scored five runs in the third inning to break a 5-5 tie. Tiffany Cartwright and Carla Drake split the Tigers two hits. The Tigers meet Neosho in a conference game at Bushwhacker Field on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
