100 Years Ago -- August 7, 1903 Mayor S.A. Wight when asked by a Mail reporter if he intended to call a special election to vote upon the proposition to issue $60,000 to be used in building a water works plant replies that he favored holding such an election but that he would not call an election to be held on August 12. Wight says there is no reason to be in a hurry about holding an election, as the old water company's franchise does not expire until August 1904. In talking about municipal ownership, Wight expressed himself as being in favor of it if honest and capable men are placed in charge of the works.
