Two file for seats on Nevada council
Nevada will have two city council candidates to choose from during the April 6 municipal election.
Voters will choose between former council member and Vernon County Ambulance District director James McKenzie and local businessman Jim Raburn.
Last Friday, Raburn became the second and final candidate to file for the seat currently held by Marie Wessley.
Raburn, 1901 N. Elm Street, is married with four children and is manager of Champion Athletics.
A lifelong resident of the Nevada area Raburn said that being on the city council would give him an opportunity to give something back to the community.
"I love this community," he said.
Raburn said that he is interested in finding a way to help small business in town succeed.
"I hate to see anyone close up. The bottom line is that I hate to see jobs leave town." he said.
Raburn said that he would like to see more of the roads in town improved.
When asked about the need for a state audit, he said that he has not studied the issue enough to have a definite opinion.
However, he said that if that is what the people want then they have a right to know what has been spent.
