100 Years Ago -- January 4, 1904
Governor Dockery has renewed the reward for $200 for the arrest of the parties who robbed the Bronaugh Bank and killed Constable Wm. Moran. The renewal of the reward tends to show that the officers must have some clue to the guilty parties.
Sheriff Harkreader refused to make a statement about the matter except to say that the reward offered by the state had been withdrawn.
FARM ANIMAL NEWS -- The Southwest Poultry Association will hold its annual show in this city on January 19-22. The Association has made great preparations for this year's exhibit and no doubt the exhibition of poultry will be the largest ever seen in the city.
The poultry business has greatly increased in the county during the past few years and much interest is being manifested in raising the standard of poultry breeding.
75 Years Ago -- January 4, 1929
A night prowler that had been causing considerable annoyance at the S&G Auto Supply Store on the east side Square was captured last night and proved to be a Missouri opossum. A trap was made by Policeman "Lefty" Hill and caught the prowler, the possum.
50 Years Ago -- January 4, 1954
DIAMOND -- A large crowd attended the Christmas program at the Carbon Center Church last Thursday night. The boys and girls gave their numbers when a Santa appeared with candy and gifts for everyone. There were a number of visitors present among who were Mayor and Mrs. Marvin Hurst and Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Dairs of Rich Hill.
Private Don Jamett and Miss Jo Ann Jamett will leave January 2 after a visit here through the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Jamett and other relatives. Private Jamett will report to Camp Kilmer, for overseas assignment in Europe. Miss Jamett will return to San Diego, California, to resume her studies there.
