100 Years Ago -- January 8, 1904
ITEMS -- T.J. Rice and J.N. Coil went to Sheldon this afternoon to assist installing officers of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
County Back Bones, Spare Ribs Sausage and Tenderloins Wednesday and Saturday. Dill Pickles, Sour Pickles, Sweet Pickles and Chow Chow and Bulk Catsup at Haddock & Company Markets. Don't Forget! Mrs. A.B. Cockeril left on the noon train today for Iola to attend the opening of the new Opera House at that place this evening.
Chas. W. Janes announces in the Daily Mail that he will be a candidate for City Marshal. Janes is a well-known citizen of Nevada, a good democrat and qualified to fill the office of City Marshal.
75 Years Ago -- January 8, 1929
EAST OF EL DORADO SPRINGS -- "Old Boreas" hit this section last Saturday morning, like a thousand bricks. All day and night "he" shrieked and howled and blew his icy breath in angry fury through every crevice. Jasper Baughn of California, a former old time resident of east of El Dorado Springs, arrived here last week for several days of visiting.
50 Years Ago -- January 8, 1954
They came from miles around today to see an old mansion undressed. Collectors came to rub a hand over the old-time but fabulous furniture put up for sale.
A second-hand store truck stood by for the possibility of cheap sales. The curious came out to stand and gawk at the auctioneer rattling off the items that had made up a home.
The sale was to settle the estate of the late Agnes Hildebrant Wood at 823 North Washington and it drew a crowd such as no sale has for several years in Nevada.
CLUB NEWS -- "Harry Truman is the man who stopped the unmolested advance of Communism in the World," Dr. Kurt Singer, world famous spy hunter and author told the members of the Nevada Talk of the Month Club last night.
Mr. Singer was the featured speaker at the January meeting of the club at the Hotel Mitchell. In his comments about former President Harry Truman, Singer said Truman may have made some mistakes while at the helm of this great nation, but the former chief executive didn't have a corner on the error department.
Truman's ordering of our troops into combat under the United Nation's banner in Korea is the only thing that put the brakes on the Kremlin's steamroller in Asia.
