Tigers earn spot in championship play
By Ralph Pokorny
For the first time in three years the Nevada Tigers baseball team will play for the championship in the Bolivar Tournament, at a time yet to be determined.
Thursday evening, the Tigers beat the Lamar Tigers 12-1 to win their pool and earn the right to face Springfield Central for the championship
Heavy rains in the Bolivar area Friday afternoon and more rain in the forecast for Friday night and Saturday postponed the games scheduled for Saturday.
Late Friday afternoon Tyson Beshore, Nevada head baseball coach, said that they were trying to determine a make-up date for the championship game with Springfield Central.
Beshore said that the last time Nevada played in the championship game, which they lost to Marshfield, was his first year as Nevada's baseball coach.
In Thursday's game the Nevada Tigers out hit Lamar 11-3 and committed one error compared to six by Lamar.
Kaleb Leonard, Grant Pierson and David Hawks led the team in hitting, Beshore said.
"Anthony Miller, Cody Thompson, Andrew Kennon and Dakota Bright combined for a great game again by our pitching staff," Beshore said.
"We played great defense and had key hits when we needed them. A great team effort," he added.
The Tigers have another busy week coming with three scheduled games.
Monday they play the Fort Scott Tigers in Fort Scott; Wednesday they travel to Pittsburg to take on Colgan and then they have their home opener on April 1 with Southwest Conference rival Carthage. All of the games are scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start.
