NHS swim team snags first at Conference championship

Last week the Nevada High School swim team wrapped up their second straight Southwest Conference championship with a first place in the Southwest Triangular at Carthage.

Not bad for a swim team that does not have a pool to use for practice all year.

Not only did they win the meet and the conference championship they also walked away with two conference records, eight personal records and five first place finishes.

Senior, Jenny McCullough garnered a first place in the 50-yard freestyle and set a conference and personal record with a time of 27.74 beating the second place swimmer by about four-tenths of a second.

Diedre Stacy also set a conference record and won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.20 beating the next swimmer by over one second.

Two other swimmers picked up first place finishes, Brittany Braucher won the 200 IM and Emily Horacek, finished first in the 100 backstroke.

Nevada's 400-yard freestyle relay team beat the second place team from Carthage by over 23 seconds, with a time of 4:34.50 Results: Girls 200 yard medley relay-3, Nevada (Anne Conner, Emily Hissink, Jennifer McCullough, Emily Horacek), 2:27.53.
