Benn honored by Southwest District for successful season

Nevada junior cross country runner Mason Benn was honored for the 2004 season by being named All-Southwest District Cross Country honorable mention in Class 3.

Benn, who was the only Nevada High School harrier to qualify for the state meet, was chosen by the coaches of the All Southwest District.

The district covers the southwest corner of Missouri, and teams with male athletes honored include West Plains, Webb City, Neosho, Willard, Nixa, Carthage, Ozark, Branson and Carl Junction.

West Plains had the most awards, getting six runners on the first team and two on the second team.

Webb City, Willard and Neosho all had one runner also named to the first team.

In all, 28 runners were honored with either first team, second team or honorable mention selections.

Benn finished 73 out of 162 runners at the state meet.

The athlete of the year was Keaton Morgan of West Plains. The coach of the year was Gene Harmon of Nixa.
