Fort Scott woman brings alienation of affection suit

FORT SCOTT, KAN. -- Another chapter was added to the story of the life of Miss Kate Vandermuellen, the young girl who was wronged by Chas. Allen, and who is the complaining witness in a criminal proceeding instituted against him when she was sued today for $7,000.

It is an action for damages and was brought by Mrs. Hattle Allen, the abandoned wife of the prisoner, who stands a good chance of going to the penitentiary. The petition was filed yesterday morning in the district court through her attorney, A.M. Aeene, and charges that the defendant in the action alienated the affections of the plaintiff's husband and committed adultery with him.

Heaviest snowfall since 1951 in this vicinity

Vernon Countians awakened this morning to alternately bless the welcome moisture and bless out their snow-bound automobiles as they greeted the heavy blanket of snow which fell during the night and continued throughout the day. W.C. Sterell, official weather observer here, said that 16 inches of snow had fallen by noon today, containing 1.80 inches of moisture much needed for the winter wheat. This was the heaviest snowfall since Nov. 6, 1951, when 18.9 inches of snow fell in a similar period. The snow started about 11 o'clock last night.
