Susan Amelia Arndt Smith
Susan Amelia Arndt Smith, 98, Rich Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, in Nevada. She was born Feb. 24, 1906, in Clarksville, Ark., to Gustav Fred and Sarah Ann (Clymer) Arndt. She married Leonard Oren Smith on Aug. 4, 1926, in Rich Hill.
She was a farm wife. She belonged to the Sprague Community Club, the Sprague Church and the Rich Hill First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oren; three brothers, baby Elmer Stoddard, Gus Arndt and Albert Stoddard; two sisters, Argie Young and Irene Mellenbruch; and one granddaughter, Deborah Jackson. She is survived by two sisters, Naomi Philpott, Clinton, Mo., and Norma Cornell, Kansas City; daughter, Lois, Rich Hill; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Heuser Funeral Home on Jan. 10, at 11 a.m., with Bill Perkey officiating. Music was performed by Paul Peterman, organist. Pallbearers were Jeff Tourtillott, Luke Tourtillott, Brian Breckenridge, Bob Heuser, Chris Goodlett and Kevin Goodlett. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Breckenridge, Cliff Norris, Harold Jackson and Jack Philpott. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Rich Hill. Arrangements were by Heuser Funeral Home.
