Hume boys beat NEVC, girls split

The Hume boys beat Northeast Vernon County in basketball Friday, 62-56 during the Hornets homecoming game.

James Salters scored 19 points to lead the Hornets while Justin Wehar had 16 and Clayton Brooks scored 13.

The game went into overtime with the score tied at 50. Wehar scored seven of his points in the extra period to get the Hornets going.

Hume had led 24-6 at halftime, but a 24-point quarter in the fourth helped the Knights force the extra period.

NEVC won the girls game behind a 31-point performance by Katie Foreman. Foreman hit five three-pointers to lead the Lady Knights to the 62-49 win.

The girls played a rematch Monday in the first round of the Lakeland Tournament, with Hume getting the win this time, 36-25.

Nicole Hinton led the Lady Hornets with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Kayla Orear had 13 points in the win.

The Hume boys improved to 4-4 this season with their win, 2-2 in conference play.

The Hume girls are now 7-2 overall this season, 4-1 in conference play.

In the JV game Friday Hume won 19-15.
