Task force seeks solutions for placement, transport of mental health consumers

The Vernon County Mental Health Task Force met Friday, Jan. 14, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Representatives attended from Nevada Regional Medical Center, Allied Mental Health, Vernon County Ambulance, Nevada Police Department, Vernon County Sheriff's Office, Nevada Mental Health and Heartland.
The group discussed their number one concerns with regard to mental health which included finding placement and transportation for these patients, cooperation within the community, housing, and several other issues.
The issue of transportation for these patients to facilities where placement has been secured was discussed.
James McKenzie gave a brief overview of the Vernon County Ambulance District's challenges and barriers. They are the most frequent provider of this service. A transportation subcommittee was put into place to look at options for behavioral health transportation.
The task force will meet again April 13. Housing will be the topic for discussion and the transportation committee will report at that time.
